Dungannon company secure multi-million euro deal
The McAvoy Group of Dungannon has won a multi-million Euro deal to build a state-of-the-art steel-framed expansion to Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
The contract will see the McAvoy Group manufacture and build a new facility that will cater to over 1,500 full-time students in fast growing disciplines such as the visual arts, digital technology and multi-media, as well as more traditional areas such as art and design.
Completion is scheduled for the end of July, representing an on-site construction time of only 36 weeks. The new building will feature lecture theatres and the latest IT facilities, as well as staff and student rooms, including a coffee dock. Included in the design is the requirement to provide extensive trunking for IT cabling and safety systems throughout the new building.
In addition, the facilities will be used for the institute's substantial extra-mural programme. The institute, which was launched in 1997 and admitted its first students a year later, aims to contribute to the wider Irish economy and to enterprise in creative industries in particular through the provision of innovation and incubation units.
McAvoy Group is one of Ireland's leading manufacturers of fast track modular buildings, which are prefabricated off-site in the company's modern manufacturing plants at Dungannon and Belfast. The new contract represents the company's biggest project in the Republic of Ireland to date.
