Minister Addresses Partnership Event At Shankill Job Assist Centre
Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry has addressed a partnership event at Shankill Job Assist Centre (JAC) which marked the centre's 10 year anniversary.
The key theme for the event was 'Partnership' with the community based organisation celebrating 10 successful years as a Job Assist Centre preparing unemployed local people with employability skills through effective professional partnerships. Shankill JAC also delivers two Department for Employment and Learning employment programmes including the Local Employment Intermediary Service (LEMIS) and 'Promoting Employability in the Greater Shankill (PEGS)' – a European Social Fund project.
Speaking at the event in the Spectrum Centre, Shankill Road, Minister Farry said: "The Shankill Job Assist Centre in the last decade has been part of the fabric of the Shankill community in delivering programmes and services to those in greatest need and to support them access education, employment and training to improve their lives.
"My Department has invested over £12million in LEMIS, since it began in April 2007. To date, 12,611 people have availed of the service with 2,852 entering employment. LEMIS, delivered by the Shankill Job Assist Centre, supports unemployed people within the local community overcome personal barriers that may be preventing them finding and retaining a job."

Senator Conway is taking part in the initiative by welcoming a job seeker to Leinster House, who will shadow him for the day.
