Appeal Over Attempted Car Robbery

Detectives are appealing for information following a suspected attempted car robbery in Newry, County Down.

The incident began shortly after 20:15 in the Monaghan Row area on the evening of Monday 3 March, when a man was parked outside premises in the area.

An unknown male, who is believed to have had an eastern European accent, entered the vehicle and produced a suspected handgun from his waistband.

As the man made off from the scene, it is believed the driver may have been struck in the face.

The man involved is described as 5"6 tall, dark hair, light facial hair and aged in his 20s. Enquiries are continuing.

48-year-old Arrested Over Assault, Coleraine

A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent following an assault in Coleraine, County Antrim, on the evening of Sunday 2 March.

The assault occurred in the New Market Street area and was reported to police just before 20:00. A 52-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries. His condition is currently described as critical but stable.

Houses Attacked In Garvagh

Police are appealing for information following an incident of criminal damage that occurred in the early hours of Monday 3 March in the Garvagh area of County L'Derry.

At approximately 01:00, three men smashed two windows at one property in the Glebeview Park area, before proceeding to another property and smashing two windows there.

A woman in her 40s was hit in the face by a piece of glass in the second house. The windscreen and a side window of a car were also smashed.

The three men wore balaclavas and are believed to have made off on foot in the direction of Upper Mettican Road.

Men Fined Over Fisheries Offences

Three men have been found guilty of fisheries offences at Magherafelt Court.

Martin Coleman of Derrygarve Park, Castledawson was found guilty of taking coarse fish on Lough Neagh during the annual close season and using floats not in compliance with requirement.

He was fined £50 and ordered to pay costs of £350, court costs of £10 and an offender levy of £15.

At the same court, Dorakis Margevicives of Parkmore, Magherafelt was convicted of unlicenced angling.

He was fined £50 along with costs of £75, court costs of £38 and an offender levy of £15.

Also at the same court, Mindavgas Margevicives of Parkmore, Magherafelt, was found guilty of unlicenced fishing.

He was fined £50 with costs of £75, court costs of £19 and an offender levy of £15.

Woman Charged With Attempted Murder After Man Stabbed In Co Down
A 36-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed in Co Down. The 54-year-old victim was stabbed in the Manor Court area in Moira on Monday. He is currently in a serious but stable condition in hospital. The woman is to appear at Craigavon Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Joe Reilly Murder: Man Arrested
A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Joe Reilly. Mr Reilly, 43, was shot at his home in the Glenwood Court area of Poleglass, west Belfast, on 20 October. Police detained the suspect in the Newtownabbey area on Thursday, 08 December. He has been taken to Musgrave Police Station for questioning.

Two Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
Two people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. Gerard Browne, 29, of Summerhill Drive, Belfast was given 12 months probation and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Incapacity Benefit totalling £377.

Belfast City Council has been busy enforcing legislation on a variety of matters, ranging from shopkeepers selling tobacco to underage customers to dog owners running foul of the law.
