GAA Star Convicted Of Manslaughter
A teenager has been cleared of murdering his father, but convicted of his manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
Sean Hackett, 19, was said to have killed his father, 60-year-old Aloysius, at their family home in Augher, Co Tyrone, in January last year.
The teenager, a former GAA footballer, has always admitted to killing his father, but denied his murder. Following the trial at Dungannon Crown Court, a jury took around two and a half hours to convict Mr Hackett of manslaughter. He was also convicted on two further charges of having a gun and ammunition with intent to endanger life. He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced next month.
Man Dies In House Fire
A man has died following a house fire in Co Tyrone.
The victim, aged 91, was found after police were called to a property in Knock Crescent, Ballygawley, shortly before 1pm on Thursday.
It is understood the fire, which was accidental, started in the living room of the house but had burnt itself out by the time the fire service arrived at the scene.
Man Found Guilty Of Fisheries Offences
A man has been convicted of fisheries offences.
Raymond Picking of High Green, Belfast, was found guilty at Ballymena Court of unlicenced angling and unauthorised entry to a fishery.
He was fined a total of £150 with costs of £120, court costs of £19 and an offender levy of £15.
Further Investment For A2 Antrim Coast Road
Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has announced a £380,000 investment scheme to resurface 3.2 kilometres of the A2 Garron Road, Carnlough.
Work on the project is due to start on Tuesday 18 March and is due to be completed within two weeks. To allow the work to be carried out, road closures will be enforced, with diversions in place for motorists.
Minister Kennedy said: "The much anticipated Giro D'Italia has chosen the A2 Antrim Coast Road as one of its key stags and this illustrates its importance in terms of tourism growth within Northern Ireland. My Department remains committed to playing our part in its continued maintenance and development."

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.
