Almac Opens Asia Offices

Almac has announced the expansion of its Asia Pacific Operations in order to meet "increasing demand" for its services.

The move will see two new offices open in Japan and Singapore.

The pharmaceutical firm, which has its headquarters in Craigavon, Co Armagh, specialises in drug testing and development.

In a statement, the company said that staff from its NI facility would be based at the new hubs to "apply insights gained from Almac's experience managing more than 10,000 trials around the world."

In addition, the company has also said it is to open a new secondary packaging facility in Singapore by the end of 2014.

Almac Chief Executive, Alan Armstong, added: "With 15% of all clinical trials conducted in Asia, it's imperative that we provide localised service and support to our clients.

"We've long managed clinical trials on a global basis, but there's now sufficient critical mass that requires we establish dedicated resources in the region.

"I'm pleased that our international expertise and global capabilities are now even more accessible to sponsors in this critically-important part of the world, and look forward to opening our new packaging facility later this year."

Almac was founded in 2002 by businessman and philanthropist Sir Allen McClay.
