One Big Switch Creates 20 New Positions

Minister for Agriculture, Marine and Food Simon Coveney TD has announced that One Big Switch, the Australian headquartered consumer network, is to create 20 new roles in its newly established European HQ in Harcourt Street, Dublin by 2016.

Minister Coveney made the official announcement from the company's headquarters in Sydney, where he met with One Big Switch Co-Founder, Lachlan Harris.

The company will create roles in IT, media and campaign management, customer service, PR and administration. The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

One Big Switch is a consumer network who negotiate on behalf of consumers, group discounted offers on household utilities. One Big Switch run media campaigns that elicit interest from consumers in saving money in utilities and banking charges, consumers then sign up on to OneBigSwitch.ie. The company then negotiates an exclusive group discounted deal with the provider and offers it to its customers. The company has run a number of successful campaigns in Australia and has over 500,000 subscribers in Australia.

Minister Coveney said: "One Big Switch is a highly innovative consumer driven company. I am delighted to announce the company's decision to locate its European HQ in Dublin. This is a strategically important development for the company and Ireland will play a pivotal role in its international expansion."

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD said: "This is a very welcome announcement from a fast-growing innovative international company. I wish One Big Switch every success with their new European HQ and look forward to working with them in the future."

M&S Drivers' Strike Looms

However, the global recession has led to the firm's parent company looking at further cuts.

Tipperary Hotel Refusal Hits Job Opportunities
News that the Irish Planning Appeals board has rejected proposals to build a contentious hotel development in Tipperary will disappoint local building contractors. The development, which received strong opposition from locals, was to be built on a Cashel site, formerly owned by the Presentation Sisters.

Almost 100 Jobs Announced For Cork City
Up to 100 jobs are to be announced for Cork City by a US online games company. The company, Big Fish Games, is expected to announce the move with the aid of IDA Ireland. The company, which provides free online gaming on the internet, plans to open its European headquarters at Mahon, Cork.

Kenny Welcomes Quantcast Jobs Announcement
Dublin Bay North Labour Party T.D., and member of the Oireachtas Communications Committee, Sean Kenny, has welcomed news that Quantcast, a digital advertising company, are to establish their EMEA operations centre in Dublin, with 100 jobs being created as a result.
