Severe Rise In Scarlet Fever Cases
Northern Ireland has been endured a sharp rise in the number of scarlet fever cases since Christmas, according to the Public Health Agency (PHA).
It said that in the first eight weeks of 2014 there were 82 cases compared to 50 in the same period in 2013.
During the last year a rise to 199 cases was also reported, compared to 130 cases in 2011.
The childhood disease symptoms are high temperature, red rash, sore throat, headache, swollen neck glands.
Although some cases are reported to the PHA, there has been no increase in the number of the most severe cases.
The disease cases also increased in some areas of England.

Detectives in Belfast are investigating a suspected arson attack on a 5G mast in the Andersonstown Road area. The incident occurred around 9.55pm on Wednesday, November 13th. Detective Sergeant Faulkner confirmed that officers attended the scene alongside the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who successfully extinguished the blaze.
