US firm invests £33m in Craigavon plant
A US owned forklift truck manufacturer is to invest £33 million in Craigavon to establish its Northern Ireland plant as a dedicated European manufacturing centre.
The deal by NACCO Materials Handling Group (NMHG) will see the company expand its range of forklift trucks for international markets as part of an overall £86 million investment.
Commenting on the investment, Alan Little, Plant Manager at Craigavon, put the continued competitiveness of the Northern Ireland operation down to the quality of its employees.
“We’ve developed a very skilled and motivated workforce that has been quick to adapt to business improvement techniques and to ensure high levels of productivity.
“The expansion, part of an £86 million investment by NMHG in new trucks, is a tremendous vote of confidence in the commitment of people at all levels to measure and ensure the cost-efficiency of the plant in a very competitive global marketplace,” he added.
Over 15,000 lift trucks are currently produced annually at Craigavon for customers in Europe and the Middle East. This output will rise to around 20,000 when the plant concentrates entirely on the new trucks which will feature advanced engines and more sophisticated electronics.
