Bomb Alert Follows Arrests In County Tyrone

Two men have been arrested and bomb disposal experts called to the scene after police stopped a van that was travelling through Fintona in County Tyrone this morning.

Officers stopped the van on Corbally Road and detained the men at about 02:00 in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The arrests sparked a security alert that saw a number of houses evacuated in the nearby area and the closure of a section of the Corbally Road.

West Tyrone SDLP MLA Joe Byrne said: "I am very concerned to hear about a security alert outside Fintona where a van was stopped in the early hours of the morning. This incident has caused significant distress and disruption for local people who have had to be evacuated from their homes for their safety.

"I would appeal for anyone with any information to contact the PSNI."
