New President For Ulster Farmers' Union

Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Michelle O'Neill has welcomed the appointment of Ian Marshall as President of the Ulster Farmers' Union (UFU).

Minister O'Neill added that she is looking forward to working with Mr Marshall on a number of key issues affecting farmers and farm families.

She said: "I congratulate Ian on his appointment as President of the UFU, which comes at an important time within the agri-industry.

"I look forward to working with him on a number of key areas, such as CAP reform, Going for Growth and Farm Safety, to ensure we deliver a package which will benefit the whole of the farming community in the north."

Minister O'Neill also acknowledged the role of outgoing President Harry Sinclair, adding: "Throughout the past few years Harry has demonstrated positive leadership, not least during last year's fodder crisis, and I wish him well for the future."
