New European Training Scheme To Target Youth Unemployment
Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn has announced the launch of a new European scheme that will give over 30,000 Irish students, apprenticeships and volunteers, along with 8,000 teachers, trainers, education staff and youth workers, the chance to spend time studying, training or working in European countries.
The Erasmus+ scheme will have a budget of almost €15bn for the next seven years to provide opportunities for people to work and train across Europe.
Welcoming the news, Labour Senator Mary Moran said: "This year alone, Ireland will benefit from €2.89 million. Priorities will include projects which will tackle the problem of youth unemployment and the promotion of healthy behaviours in young people.
"Youth organisations throughout the country can bring forward proposals under the programme so that as many young people as possible can avail of the opportunity to enhance their skills and employability."
