Stabbed man 'critical' following sectarian attack

Police are appealing for information after a man was repeatedly stabbed in the back during an attack in Co Antrim last night.

The 28-year-old man, who is in a critical condition in hospital, was walking along the Cloyfin Road, between Coleraine and Bushmills, when three men leapt from a passing car and proceeded to beat him with iron bars. He was then stabbed a number of times in the back with a knife.

The attackers tried to drag the victim to a nearby car, however he managed to break free. The three men then escaped in the nearby vehicle that drove off in the direction of Bushmills.

Police believe the attack had a sectarian motive and have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
