Man charged with intelligence gathering
A 27-year-old north Belfast man has been charged in court today with collecting information likely to be of use to terrorists.
Ciaran Cunningham, 27, from Grainne House in the New Lodge area of the city, was charged with collecting information about police officers, soldiers, prison officers and other unnamed individuals.
He was one of five people arrested yesterday in connection with an alleged Real IRA intelligence gathering operation at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
The four other people are still in police custody.
Appearing before Belfast Magistrates' Court today Mr Cunningham made no reply when charged.
He was remanded in court for no more than three days while police investigate a matter separate from the charges.
Chief constable Hugh Orde revealed details of the operation during yesterday's meeting of the Northern Ireland Policing Board held in Belfast.
The Royal Victoria Hospital has set up a helpline for concerned patients which is available on 028 9063 5858 between 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday.

A 49-year-old man has appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court charged in relation with a number of firearm offences. On Wednesday, Detectives from the PSNI's Criminal Investigation Branch, discovered a number of firearms during the search of a property in the Springfield Road area of west Belfast.

Police Appeal After 'Shot Fired' In North Belfast
Police have launched an investigation after reports of a shot being fired in north Belfast. No-one is believed to have been injured in the incident in the Farringdon Court area on Thursday. Police are keen to establish what happened and are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Two Teens Charged After Reversing Stolen Car Into Police Vehicle
Two teenagers have been charged after a stolen car they were driving reversed into a police car. The car, which is believed to have been taken from the Kent Street area of Belfast, was seen being driven erratically on the Whitecliff Parade on Tuesday evening.
