Invest NI Support Creation Of 11,000 Jobs In 2013
Invest NI have supported the creation of 11,000 new jobs in 2013, newly released figures have revealed.
Welcoming the news, Vice Chair of the Enterprise Committee, Phil Flanagan, Sinn Féin, said the news was especially good for those successful applicants.
He continued: "Alastair Hamilton in releasing the figures confirmed what Sinn Féin has always maintained – that the majority of new and existing jobs are in fact created by indigenous enterprise. For this reason we have always advocated greater emphasis on support for local entrepreneurs.
"While we should continue to seek maximum Foreign Direct Investment – and I commend the First and deputy First Ministers in their efforts – I believe that we must also increase our focus on assistance for SMEs who it is acknowledged provide 90% of jobs.
"I would also urge Invest NI when consulting with prospective investors to incentivise them to locate in areas of severe unemployment, especially West of the Bann which has suffered from historic underinvestment."
