Man Assaulted By Masked Gang, Bangor

A 33-year-old man has been assaulted by a gang of masked men in Bangor, County Down.

The man was walking in the Abbey Park area on Thursday at 22:50 when he was attacked by three or four men.

He was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening. Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Appeal Over Road Traffic Attack, Lisburn

Detectives in Lisburn are appealing for information following an incident in the Oldpark Road area of the city on the morning of 15 May.

At around 10:00 it was reported that a man was driving a blue Volkswagen Passat along the Oldpark Road close to its junction with Ivy Hill, when his car was struck from behind and forced off the road by a black-coloured Subaru Imprezza.

The man saw a masked person in the driver's seat and a second in the rear seat of the Subaru. One of the persons was reported to be carrying a suspected handgun. The Subaru car made off and was discovered a short time later on the Beanstown Road. The man was not injured but left shaken by the incident.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information to contact CID in Lisburn Police Station on the non-emergency number 101. The independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Orange Hall Attack Treated As Hate Crime

Police are appealing for information after a report of criminal damage at an Orange Hall in the Garlandstown Road, Glenavy area of Lisburn.

Sometime overnight between Tuesday 13 May and Wednesday 14 May, it was reported that slogans were painted over an Orange Hall in the area. Police are treating the incident as a hate crime. Enquiries are continuing.

Three Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

Three people were convicted at Londonderry Magistrates' court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Michael McLaughlin, 52, of Hollymount Park, L'Derry claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £3,506 while failing to declare capital. He was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £58.

Sarah McAdams,25, of Marian Hall, L'Derry claimed Income Support totalling £2,564 while failing to declare employment. She was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay court costs of £43.

Leigh Farren, 23, of Alfred Street, L'Derry claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £1,068 while failing to declare employment. She was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £34.

All are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Man Dies In Co L'Derry House Fire
A man aged in his 50s has died in a house fire in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire at a house on Highfield Road, however police said that they don't believe the fire was suspicious. The man's identity has not yet been released.

Witness Appeal After Stabbing Incident In Downpatrick
Police have issued an appeal for witnesses following an assault in the Ardilea Park area of Downpatrick in the early hours of Sunday morning, 10 December. A 22-year-old man was found with serious stab wounds at a house in the Killough Road area just after 4am. He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
