Extension Approved For 'Highest Pub In Ireland'
The self-proclaimed 'highest pub in Ireland' has been granted planning approval for a conversion and extension.
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan gave the go-ahead for the works at the Ponderosa Bar in Dungiven, L'Derry.
The new facilities will include a coffee shop, a new kitchen, toilet facilities, a smoking area and relocation of its off licence.
At an altitude of over 900 feet, the Ponderosa is known as 'The Highest Pub in Ireland.' It is situated on the Glenshane Pass, which is the main road from L'Derry to Belfast and features views of the Sperrins.
Mark H Durkan said: "This is a boost for the Dungiven area and provides upgraded facilities for this tourist hotspot. The redevelopment will contribute to the retail/catering and tourist infrastructure and will provide construction jobs in the short term and local employment opportunities in the long term.
"Decisions like this support my vision for a stronger economy through the promotion of tourism."

'Highest Pub In Ireland' Reopens
A pub on the Glenshane Pass known as the highest in Ireland has been officially opened today following refurbishment. Environment Minister Mark H Durkan today cut the ribbon to officially open the newly refurbished Ponderosa bar. Planning permission was granted in May for conversion and extensions to the famous pub and restaurant.

Mixed Messages In NI Unemployment Stats
The latest statistics on unemployment in Northern Ireland show mixed messages, with the unemployment rate having declined slightly while the number of people signing on has risen. The figures from the Labour Force Survey show the unemployment rate in Northern Ireland was estimated at 7.9% for the period September - November 2012.

Noise complaints on the increase
A new report published today by the DoE's Environment and Heritage Service has revealed that noise complaints increased by 20% last year. The statistics show that there were 10,047 noise complaints made to Northern Ireland’s 26 District Councils in 2004/05. Over half of the complaints were received by Belfast City Council.

65-Year-Old Man Arrested In Connection With Birmingham Pub Bombings
A 65-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the 1974 Birmingham pub bombings. Twenty one people were killed and some 220 people injured when bombs exploded at the Mulberry Bush and the Tavern in the Town on the night of 21 November, 1974.
