Thieves Attempt ATM Theft With Explosive Device
Police have launched an investigation after thieves attempted to steal an ATM machine at a filling station on Annareagh Road, Hamiltonsbawn, County Armagh.
Detectives in Newry are appealing for information following the incident, which began when police received a report of a loud bang in the area and suspicious activity close to the ATM, at about 02:30 in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The device was made safe and removed for further examination. It is believed the culprits left the area in a vehicle, driving in the direction of Markethill. A black Audi car was found abandoned on the Gosford Road a short time later.
Police are appealing to anyone who has information in relation to this incident to contact them.
They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who noticed a Volkswagen Passat or black Audi car, travelling between Hamiltonsbawn and Newry, prior to and after this incident.
Detectives in Ardmore can be contacted on the 101 non-emergency number. The independent Crimestoppers charity can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

PSNI detectives investigating an attempted ATM theft at a service station on Cushendall Road in Ballymena overnight, have issued an appeal for information and witnesses. It is understood that three men were involved in trying to force the door of the room housing the machine shortly after 2am. They made off without gaining entry.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Two Die In Road Accidents
Two men have died in separate road accidents. On Sunday, a man was killed when his car collided with another vehicle on Banbridge Road, Dromore, at around 6pm. A 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene and has been released on police bail. In a separate incident, a man, understood to be in his 40s, has died in Co Armagh.
