Dead Mice Found At Poundstretcher

Dead mice and droppings have been found at an east Belfast Poundstretcher shop by Environmental Health officers.

The owner has been fined £1,800 in relation to three food hygiene offences, following the discovery of the two mice.

Poundstretcher Ltd., which owns the Poundstretcher outlet at Connswater Shopping Centre, was also ordered to pay court costs of £75.

The prosecution follows a routine inspection of the premises on 14 February 2013.

Environmental Health staff also found hygiene conditions throughout the premises to be unsatisfactory.

Woman And Children Left Shaken After Burglary

A woman and two young children have been left badly shaken after their house was burgled in Lurgan, Co Armagh.

Two men, armed with a knife and a firearm, entered the property in the Ashwood area shortly after midnight on Wednesday.

They threatened the woman and searched the house, before taking a number of items. They left the scene on foot.

The first man is described as being in his early 20s, about 5ft 11in tall, of thin build and was wearing a peach coloured jumper. He was carrying a knife. The second man was described as being in his late 20s, about 5ft 6in tall, stocky build. He was carrying a gun.

Third Man Arrested After Racist Attack

Officers investigating a racist attack on a Nigerian man in west Belfast have arrested a third man.

The 36-year-old victim was assaulted in the Sliabh Dubh area, off the Springfield Road, at around 20:30 on Monday.

A 19-year-old was arrested on Tuesday evening by police.

Two men, aged 32 and 25, were arrested earlier in the day.

Belfast Woman Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

A woman has been convicted at Belfast Magistrates' Court for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Victoria Couchman, 27, of Bloomfield Avenue, Belfast claimed Income Support, Carers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £2,291 while failing to declare employment. She was given 240 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £156.

She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Man arrested in connection with Lisa murder is released
The man arrested in connection with the murder of Bangor woman Lisa Dorrian has been released, police have said. The 18-year-old man was detained in the Greater Belfast area on Tuesday but has since been released without charge. The man is the fourth person to be questioned in connection with inquiries into the 25-year-old’s killing.

Woman Found Unconscious On Co Down Road
A woman has been found unconscious on a road in County Down. The woman, aged in her 50s, was discovered on the Sheepland Road at around 4.30am on Sunday. She was taken to hospital where she is believed to be in a serious condition.

Man arrested after woman dies in collision
A 61-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal road accident in County Down. A woman, believed to be in her 50s, was hit by a vehicle on the Comber Road in Newtownards at about 9.45pm last night. The victim’s name has not yet been released.

Man Arrested Following Assault On Pregnant Woman In Belfast
Police in south Belfast have arrested a man in connection with the assault of a pregnant 18-year-old woman in the Ormeau Road area. The incident occurred on Saturday, October 12th, around 5:30pm near Annadale Embankment. A man threatened the woman, snatched her mobile phone, and then assaulted her. Two other men intervened and stopped the attack.

Man And Woman Arrested Over North Belfast Hate Crime
Police have arrested a man and woman on suspicion of criminal damage in connection with an attack on a house in the Woodvale area of Belfast. A number of windows at the front of the house in Broom Street in the north of the city were smashed at about 20:40 on Monday night.
