DRD Consider Cameras In Bus Lanes

The Department of Regional Development is considering taking over responsibility for the enforcement of laws against private motorists using bus lanes.

New proposals include the use of fixed and mobile cameras to monitor bus lanes, with driving in a bus lanes possibly being made a civil offence.

It is illegal for drivers to use designated bus lanes, with the PSNI currently responsible for enforcing the law.

However, the DRD, who are currently responsible for enforcing parking laws, may take on oversight of bus lane offences to.
