'Private Sector Driving NI Growth' - Finance Minister
DUP Finance Minister Simon Hamilton has said that the private sector is driving growth in the Northern Ireland economy.
Mr Hamilton told the latest 'Minister on the Move' event, organised by the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce, that the private sector must continue to propel growth in the economy due to increasing pressures on public spending.
He also said there needed to be a decision made on welfare reform so spending on public services wouldn't be negatively impacted by Treasury penalties imposed by Westminster.
"All too often in the past, Northern Ireland would have relied far too much on our public sector as a driver of economic growth, that is changing," he said. "Our economy is rebounding from the recession and what is most interesting within the reams of positive economic data is that it is quite clear that it is the private sector that is powering economic recovery."
