Man Released Over PSNI Vehicle Contracts

A former PSNI assistant chief constable has been released following his arrest along with six other men over the awarding of police vehicle contracts.

Duncan McCausland was arrested on Tuesday along with five other men. Three of the six have now been released.

On Thursday morning, a 71-year-old man in County Down was also arrested on suspicion of bribery and procuring misconduct in public office.

The arrest of six people on 17 June included four men arrested in Northern Ireland in counties Antrim, Down and Tyrone and two arrested in England, who were then brought to Northern Ireland for questioning.

Those arrested in Northern Ireland included a 48-year-old police officer, a 37-year-old member of police staff, a 54-year-old former police officer and a 62-year-old civilian. The two people arrested in England are aged 34 and 54.

Two Men Arrested Over Attempted Murder Of PSNI Officers
Two men have been arrested in Dublin in connection with the attempted murder of a two PSNI officers. The suspects, aged 29 and 32, have been detained under a European Arrest Warrant. The arrests were in connection with a bomb discovered attached to a police officer's vehicle in L'Derry in June 2015.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Man Extradited From France Over Alleged Rape
A man has been extradited from France to Northern Ireland over an alleged rape. The 26-year-old Romanian national was extradited from Lyon using a European Arrest Warrant. A spokesperson from the PSNI said: "The man is sought for trial in Northern Ireland following an alleged offence of rape in the Portadown area in 2014.
