Funding Announced For Schools Energy Saving Initiative
Education Minister John O'Dowd has announced funding of £10m to improve energy efficiency in Northern Ireland's schools.
The Spend to Save initiative aims to help schools cut their energy costs, with a portion of the fudning going to installing solar panels on schools.
Minister O'Dowd said: This particular energy source lends itself to educating people on the benefits to be achieved because it includes an indicator of output showing the energy produced and carbon dioxide emissions saved.
"I want to ensure that schools are as energy efficient as possible and, in taking these vital steps, they are also educating young people about the global issue of climate change."

Local businesses are set to get additional help in cutting their energy bills with the announcement of £3.6 million in funding for the Carbon Trust. The Carbon Trust works with businesses to reduce harmful carbon dioxide emissions through energy efficiency measures, thereby reducing the cost of energy to businesses.

Potential For 'Green' Jobs, Says De Brun
The green economy should be at the heart of government programmes, according to Sinn Féin's Bairbre de Brún, who said energy efficiency schemes could create much-needed jobs for the ailing construction sector. The newly re-elected MEP (pictured) appeared before the Climate Change Inquiry held by the Assembly Environment Committee last week.
