Somme Memorial At Belfast City Hall
Belfast Lord Mayor Nichola Mallon joined First Minister Peter Robinson at Belfast City Hall Cenotaph today to commemorate the 98th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.
Representatives of the armed forces, ex-services associations and Church leaders took part in the ceremony to mark the date when men from the 36th (Ulster) Division and 16th (Irish) Division lost their lives.
The Somme battle was one of the largest to occur during the First World War, with some 1,000,000 men having been wounded or killed in action.
Other wreath layers in attendance today included First Minister Peter Robinson, Irish Minister Joe Costello TD, Lord Lieutenant Dame Mary Peters and Chief Executive of Belfast City Council Suzanne Wylie.

Politicians Help 'Kick Hate Into Touch'
An innovative campaign, the 'Unite Against Hate' sporting weekend has been launched. Stormont First Minister Peter Robinson and his Junior Minister Gerry Kelly (pictured) joined forces to support the campaign which highlights all forms of hate crime and challenges people here to unite to stop it.

Hotel Development Approved
Planning approval has been given for the £12m development of a new hotel in a listed building in Belfast city centre. Environment Minister Mark H Durkan has recommended planning approval for the conversion of the Scottish Mutual Building, which sits opposite Belfast City Hall.

Loyalists Organised Union Flag Violence - McGuinness
Martin McGuinness has said the recent violence over the union flag debate at City Hall was organised and orchestrated by loyalist paramilitaries. The deputy First Minister was speaking at a special session of the Assembly today where a motion was debated calling for solidarity with the Alliance Party and the condemnation of violent protest.
