Investigation Into L'Derry Fire

A fire that severely damaged a bookmakers in the Creggan area of L'Derry could have been started deliberately, according to police.

The blaze broke out at the premises on Central Drive just after 04:00 in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Three appliances from Northland Fire Station attended.

Pair Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

Two men have been convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

24-year-old Dean Shearer of Lomond Avenue, Belfast claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £967 while failing to declare employment. He was fined £250, given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £183.

27-year-old Gary Stewart of Duke Street, Belfast claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £4,001 while failing to declare employment. He was fined £300, given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £68.

Both are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Four Arrested Over Down Robberies

Four men have been arrested by detectives investigating violent robberies in the south Down area. The PSNI conducted searches in Warrenpoint and Newry on Tuesday.

The move follows a robbery at a shop on Smalls Road in Warrenpoint on 2 March, during which a number of men forced their way into a house and ordered a 57-year-old woman to visit a jewellery shop in the town and retrieve a number of items.

A 53-year-old man and his 20-year-old daughter were held captive by the gang while it was being carried out and all three victims were abandoned in a field in the Mayobridge area.

A car that was later found burnt out close to the nearby village of Burren is believed to have been used in the incident.

Police Appeal Over West Belfast Hijacking

Police are appealing for information following a vehicle hijacking in the Grosvenor Road area of west Belfast on Tuesday 8 July.

Just before 12:15, it was reported that a car parked in the area when a man grabbed the arm of the woman driver, pulled her out of the car and made off in it. The car was a grey Citroen C1.

The woman, aged 19, was not injured in the incident.

The man is described as being about 26 years old and was wearing a grey hooded top and tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact CID in Woodbourne Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.

PSNI Appeal For Help Tracing Missing Belfast Man
The PSNI have issued an appeal for help in tracing the whereabouts of 31-year-old Conor Bradley. Conor was last seen on Saturday, 29 January. He is described as 6'6", of slim build with ginger hair. He is believed to be in the Belfast area, according to police. Anyone with any information about Conor or his whereabouts is urged to contact police.

Colin Horner Murder: Man Arrested
A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Colin Horner. Mr Horner, 35, was fatally shot in front of his young son in a supermarket car park on Sunday, 28 May. The man was arrested in the Newtownards area on Friday, 16 June. He has been taken to Musgrave Police station for questioning.

Man Arrested After Police Car Chase In West Belfast
A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a police car chase in west Belfast. The PSNI saw a red Volkswagen driving in the Beechmount area with no lights on. They signalled for the vehicle to stop, however a pursuit commenced onto the Falls Road where it was stung by other officers from the auto crime team.

Police Appeal After 'Shot Fired' In North Belfast
Police have launched an investigation after reports of a shot being fired in north Belfast. No-one is believed to have been injured in the incident in the Farringdon Court area on Thursday. Police are keen to establish what happened and are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Six Arrested In Dissident Investigation
Six people have been arrested by detectives investigating dissident republican activity. The arrests were made on Tuesday in the Dunmurry and west Belfast area following a number of searches. Police said five men, aged between 31 and 58, and a 32-year-old woman had been arrested.
