Wrightbus Secures £30m Deal

Wrightbus has secured a £30m deal to supply 415 double deck bus kits to SBS Transit in Singapore.

Wrightbus International, the international arm of Wrights Group in Ballymena, has been chosen to provide the vehicles. The order will be supplied and packaged from the company’s Ballymena plant.

Enterprise and Trade Minister Arlene Foster said: "Wrightbus is a leading example of an innovative business that has continued to invest in its future. Developing its knocked down (CKD) kit with research and development support from Invest Northern Ireland has created significant opportunities for the business.

"Earlier this year I met with the senior management team at ComfortDelGro Corporation’s headquarters in Singapore and they were clearly impressed with the quality and innovation behind the Wrightbus product.

"This substantial contract secures Wrightbus as the primary suppliers of double-deck buses for SBS Transit, a subsidiary company of the ComfortDelGro Corporation, into 2017. It follows three previous orders with the same company, resulting in over 1,000 similar vehicles entering service with SBS Transit since 2010."

Invest NI’s support was part funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland.
