Ravenhill Road Repairs Near Completion
NI Water has confirmed that urgent repair work to the Ravenhill Road is almost complete.
Earlier this month, the road was closed with immediate effect after a "large void" was discovered when sewer replacement work was being carried out. Further CCTV footage taken of the area quickly identified further voids also needing repair. Following consultation with Transport NI (DRD), it was agreed, for safety reasons, to close the Ravenhill Road until repairs are completed.
In a statement, NI Water has confirmed that the project is now nearing completion, but admitted it is not possible to say when the road will be re-opened and the former traffic management system will be in place. During the works, and prior to the discovery of the holes, single-lane traffic was being controlled by portable traffic signals.
A spokesperson explained: "As always in these instances the safety of the travelling public is our number one priority and we will continue to work closely with our colleagues in Roads Service to ensure that inconvenience is kept to an absolute minimum.
"We do, however, appreciate that this will still cause difficulties for motorists using this busy route and will therefore be working to complete this work as quickly as possible. This has to be balanced with the needs of local residents."
