Newtownabbey Man Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
A 60-year-old man from Newtownabbey has been convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast Crown Court.
Named as Raymond McCord, with an address of Longlands Avenue, the court heard that he had claimed Incapacity Benefit, Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £69,000, while failing to declare employment.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, which was suspended for three years.
He was also ordered to repay any outstanding money he wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

£22,096 Benefit Fraudsters Convicted
Three benefit fraudsters have been convicted of claiming a total of £22,096 they were not entitled to. All three will have to repay the sums to the Social Security Agency. The biggest sum claimed was by a County Down man.

A 54-year-old man has been extradited from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland to face a number of benefit fraud charges. The man was originally arrested in the Republic of Ireland on 07 March 2025. Extradition proceedings were completed today with his return to Northern Ireland.

Two people have been convicted of benefit fraud at Newry Magistrates' Court today, for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. 31-year-old John McParland of Carrickananny Road, Belleeks claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £4,496 while failing to declare capital. He was fined £500 and ordered to pay court costs of £34.

Ann Dougan, 32, of Willowfield, Tandragee, claimed Income Support totalling £1,028 while failing to declare employment and that she was living with her partner. She was given a three month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.
