DRD Announce New Causeway Walk And Cycle Path

A new walkway and cycle path is to be built at the Giant's Causeway, it has been announced.

The proposed foot and bike route will be over two miles long and run from the Causeway to the Aird.

The Department for Regional Development said discussions are already under way with the National Trust and other landowners.

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy said: "I recognise that tourism is very important to the Northern Ireland economy and the Causeway Coast is one of our most beautiful and scenic areas which is very popular with sightseers from here and overseas.

"I am keen to provide any infrastructure such as footpaths and cyclepaths which help to boost tourism and also encourage people to become more active."

No further details on cost or construction etc. are currently available.

Major Investment In County Antrim Rural Tourism
Tourism in County Antrim is to benefit from an investment of £1.5 million, Rural Affairs Minister Edwin Poots has announced. The Minister has cut the first sod on a project at Magheracross viewpoint. Situated on the Causeway Coast Way, a walking trail stretching from Portstewart to Ballycastle will receive £0.5million to be redeveloped.
