Shankill Butcher Detective James Nesbitt Dies Aged 79
James Nesbitt, the lead detective in the hunt for the Shankill Butchers, has died aged 79.
During his time with the Royal Ulster Constabulary, Mr Nesbitt was involved in a number of high profile cases, but he was most remembered for his key role in bringing the notorious murder gang to justice.
While serving, Mr Nesbitt received 67 commendations and was awarded the MBE.
He is survived by his two sons.

Mike Nesbitt remains the only candidate to replace Doug Beattie as leader of the Ulster Unionist Party(UUP). Mr Beattie announced he was stepping down as leader of the party last week, citing "irreconcilable differences" with party officers. Nominations for the leadership contest are due to close later today, Friday 30 August.

City Of Culture Accolade Welcomed
There was a warm welcome last week for news that the Derry-Londonderry bid for the 2013 UK City of Culture had been successful. The city saw off strong opposition from Birmingham, Norwich and Sheffield for the coveted title and will now plan a year-long programme of cultural events for 2013.

Actors Back Appeal For Information On Remaining Disappeared
An appeal for information by the families of the Disappeared, 17 people murdered and secretly buried by republican paramilitaries, has been backed by Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt. To date, searches have uncovered the bodies of 10 of the victims, with the whereabouts of the seven others still unknown.
