Ealing Traffic Wardens To Strike Over Pay

More than 50 traffic wardens in Ealing won't be issuing tickets in the west London borough next Thursday, 11 September, in a dispute over a 'miserly' below inflation pay offer.

Ealing Borough Council – known as 'the Queen of the Suburbs' – looks set to receive a financial headache with the potential loss of revenue of up to £25,000 when the strike takes place from 00.01 on Thursday for 24 hours.

Unite the union, which represents the wardens known as civil enforcement officers (CEOs), said that NSL, which provides the service for the council, needed to increase its current 1.5% offer.

Unite regional officer Michelle Braveboy said: "NSL Limited (Ealing) is not known as a good employer – we had a similar dispute with the company over civil enforcement officer pay last year.

"It has offered 1.5 per cent for 2014/15 which is well below the retail price index, currently running at 2.5 per cent.

"Our members are seeing their living standards being eroded and the miserly offer is the last straw for the civil enforcement officers who voted overwhelmingly for the 24 hour strike."
