Game Of Thrones Begins Filming In Magilligan
The HBO sci-fi series Game of Thrones has begun filming in Magilligan, County L'Derry.
Shooting for the next series is taking place in the woods under Binevenagh Mountain.
The show is seen as a major boost to Northern Ireland's film industry, as well as a tourist draw for fans who travel internationally to visit the locations featured in the series.
High volumes of traffic are expected on the Leighery Road on 22 September and 23 September.
Limavady SDLP Councillor Gerry Mullan said there was "air of excitement" in Magilligan following the arrival of the crew.
"Those behind 'Game of Thrones' have filmed in parts of the fabulous north coast before, but this is the first time they have come into the Roe Valley, and Magilligan in particular," he said.
"There is definitely an air of excitement in the area with the buzz of film crews. It’s great to see it because it will really showcase the natural beauty of Magilligan and Binevenagh. The locations in and around St Aidan’s Chapel are flanked by the River Roe, Lough Foyle and beautiful Binevenagh. It presents a romantic view; a view local people can’t wait to see on screen.
"Last year we had filming in the Roe Valley Country Park for the new Dracula movie and now Game of Thrones. We have something special here in the Roe Valley that needs to capitalised on and, I believe, if the right moves could be made we could become a favourite with filmmakers."
