PSNI To End 300 Temporary Contracts
Alliance Policing Board member, Chris Lyttle MLA, has said the announcement by the PSNI to end the temporary contracts of 300 civilian staff is stark evidence of what happens when the Executive refuses to take strategic decisions around its budget.
He also warned that much worse would come if urgent decisions are not taken.
He said: "Northern Ireland is now descending into a massive financial crisis, caused by unionist and nationalist parties putting their party interests ahead of the people.
"Library staff redundancies last week was bad, but now we have the prospect of hundreds of police officers having to sit behind desks instead of policing our community. This is the stark reality of failing to manage our public finances.
"The inability of the Executive to get a grip on the budget crisis has left the Chief Constable no option but to implement major cuts, and this announcement is just the beginning.
"But while he sat last week trying to manage his budget, the First Minister and deputy First Minister refused to sit down and work out how to manage theirs. The community is now paying, and paying dearly, for their failure of leadership."

Govt Could Create Up To 25,000 Jobs According To Proposals

The Labour Relations Commission (LRC) has stepped into the fray between management and unions at Bus Éireann. Talks are due to begin talks today in a bid to resolve a dispute over the company's tough cost-cutting plans. A planned strike over the €30m cutbacks was called off last week after the LRC invited both sides to discussions.
