Remains Found In 'Disappeared' Case
Human remains have been uncovered in Oristown, Co Meath, it has been reported.
The discovery was made where a search for the body of one of Northern Ireland's 'Disappeared' has been taking place since August.
Brendan Megraw, 23, was abducted from his home in west Belfast, murdered and secretly buried by the IRA in April 1978. His body was never recovered. Earlier this year, the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains (ICLVR) said it was to begin a new search for his body. This commences at the end of August.
A spokesperson for the ICLVR is quoted as saying the discovery was made when contractors were clearing a drain at the site as they prepared to undertake more work.
Steps to recover the remains to begin the process of a post-mortem and formal identification is now underway, they added.
Mr Megraw is one of 16 people in Northern Ireland who became known as the Disappeared.
