£13,000 Confiscation Order Against L'Derry Man

A Confiscation Order to the value of £13,712 has been obtained against 56-year-old Eugene Prior (56) of Derrynoyd Road, Draperstown at Londonderry Crown Court recently.

The Social Security Agency Financial Investigation Unit made the move on the grounds that Mr Prior claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit, claiming he was unfit for work and had no savings or other source of income.

However, during his claim to benefit the defendant failed to declare that he had significant funds in his bank accounts. He received £13,929 in benefits he was not entitled to over a five year period.

On 3 February 2014 Mr Prior pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to declare his true circumstances.

At the confiscation hearing the Court granted a Confiscation Order in the amount of £13,712 with a sentence of 12 months in default for non-payment.

He has until 10 January 2015 to satisfy the order.
