Police Appeal For Information As Two-Year-Old Remains Critical In Hospital

A two-year-old, believed to have been the victim of an assault, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

According to reports, the girl was the victim of an attack at about 19:45 on Sunday in the Charlemont Square East area of Bessbrook.

A man, aged in his 20s, remains in police custody.

Police have also renewed their appeal for information and anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact them.

Stormont Culture Committee Hears From Ulster Orchestra

A Stormont culture committee has met with representatives of the Ulster Orchestra (UO), following the news earlier this month that the orchestra could face closure.

The UO, which is facing a £500,000 gap in its funding, is understood to have told the committee that it is not able to cut any more staff in order to save money, having already reduced admin staff from 23 to 18.

The UO representatives added that it is continuing to negotiate with its musicians in an effort to remove so-called "restrictive practices".

Stena Line Ferry Breaks Moorings In Strong Winds

A Stena Line ferry on an extended layover at Belfast Port broke its moorings and began to drift in strong winds on Tuesday.

Eighteen passengers and 55 crew were on board the vessel at the time, with tug boats deployed to retrieve the drifting boat.

A severe weather warning is in place for Northern Ireland throughout Tuesday, with the Met Office advising that gales of up to 70mph could be possible in exposed coastal areas.

Police Federation Chairman Retires
The Chairman of the Police Federation for Northern Ireland (PFNI) Terry Spence has announced he will retire. Mr Spence, who has served nearly 40 years in the RUC General Council and the PSNI, made his announcement to the staff association's Central Committee earlier today.
