Woman Convicted Over Benefit Fraud

A woman has been convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast Crown court. 60-year-old Hannah Ward of Colinwell Grove, Belfast claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £40,663 while failing to declare capital. She was given an 18-month prison sentence suspended for three years.

She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

New Works To Begin On Rathlin

£100,000 of new works are to begin on Rathlin Island off the Antrim coast.

The majority of the work will involve resurfacing, but include plans to carry out some road drainage improvements, to eliminate carriageway flooding at the sea front near the harbour and road strengthening patching works on the Western Spine.

Work is to commence on 3 November with the surfacing of the Southern Spine Road near Ushet Lough.

Surfacing works are expected to be substantially completed by 14 November, with drainage works expected to end by New Year and road patching before Spring 2015.

Sports Bodies Share £12k Development Grants

Eight governing sports bodies have shared £12,000 in development grants from Belfast City Council.

Each of the sporting bodies received £1,500, including Ulster Rugby, Ulster Tabletennis, Ulster Tennis, Athletics NI, Cricket Ireland, Basketball NI, Ulster Hockey and Ulster Squash.

Major road works scheme completed in Co Fermanagh
A new £500,000 road works scheme has been completed in Co Fermanagh today. The A4 Ballygawley to Enniskillen Road, near Fivemiletown, incorporates a climbing lane towards the town and a right turning lane at the main Kiltermon junction.
