Police Vehicle Attacked In North Belfast
A police vehicle has been attacked in north Belfast.
At around 11.20pm on Sunday, a device was thrown at a police Land Rover in the Twaddell Avenue area of the city. It did not explode.
The PSNI have described the attack as a "cold, calculated attempt to kill police officers".
In a statement Superintendent Muir Clarke said: "It was a completely reckless, callous attack. We still have a significant police operation in the area to make sure the device is safe, that the public are safe and to recover evidence so we can bring whoever did this idiotic attack before the courts."
Theresa Villiers, Secretary of State, added: "Those who carried out this attack on police officers working to protect all communities are to be utterly condemned for their violent actions.
"I would call on anyone with information to pass it to the PSNI so that those responsible can be brought to justice."
A follow-up operation is currently underway in the area, police have said, with a section of the Crumlin Road being closed. It has been closed between the Ardoyne Road and Cambria Street, while diversions are also in place at Twaddell Avenue and the Woodvale Road.
It is understood the closure will be in place for a number of hours.
