Bus Catches Fire In City Centre

Emergency services attended an incident in Belfast city centre this afternoon after a bus caught fire.

The Translink Metro 9B bus to Balmoral is understood to have caught fire around 1pm.

According to UTV, passengers alerted the driver to smoke coming from the engine.

A spokesperson for Translink is quoted as saying: "Emergency services attended the scene. Passengers were transferred onto another bus for their onward journey.

"A full investigation into the circumstances of the incident will be carried out by Translink."

Translink Bus Strike 'Back On' From 17-23 May
The bus strike "is back on", the GMB Union has announced after their members rejected a revised pay offer. The union has said that drivers, cleaners and shunters across the company will walk out for seven days from 17 to 23 May 2022, "causing the entire bus network to grind to a halt".

Bus Catches Fire In Lurgan
An investigation is underway after a bus caught fire just outside of Lurgan, Co Armagh. The incident happened at around 7.45am today, 03 November. Translink has said the Ulsterbus was travelling between Dungannon and Belfast at the time. No-one was injured in the incident and the driver and seven passengers have been transferred onto another bus.

Belfast City Centre Bus Lane Scheme Criticised
The SDLP said it is "seriously concerned" after a city centre bus lane scheme in Belfast has left motorists confused. In Great Victoria street, one signpost contains two signs which have led to confusion, however motorists are still being fined.

Minister unveils £1.6m bus system
NIO Minister John Spellar has unveiled a £1.6 million system which will supply passengers real-time information on bus arrivals. BUS TRAK is a hi-tech project jointly funded by Roads Service and Translink, now operating on the Centrelink and City Express bus routes in Belfast.
