Police to patrol Northern Ireland trains

PSNI officers are set to patrol trains running throughout east Belfast and North Down following a rise in recorded incidents of disorderly behaviour.

The new initiative, which aims to provide greater safety for passengers and the general public, will run on services on Friday and Saturday evening.

While most incidents are not reported to police, Northern Ireland Railways (NIE) confirmed that many passengers have felt increasingly intimidated throughout their journeys.

Welcoming the initiative, NIR Railway Services Manager Seamus Scanlon said the operation would ensure "that we can strengthen the public's confidence when they use the railways".
