PSNI Ups Patrols Following Car Thefts
The PSNI has said it is upping police patrols following a spate of attempted thefts from cars in Belfast.
A group of men attempted to open the doors of cars in the York Street and North Queen Street areas on Thursday.
The robbery attempts failed, however, as the cars' doors were locked. Nothing was taken and no injuries were reported.
Police said they suspected the motive behind the attempts was to steal possessions from the cars and not to actually hijack the cars themselves.
There has also been a spate of car hijackings and vehicle thefts over recent weeks.
The PSNI has advised the public to take steps to ensure safety and are increasing patrols in Belfast.
Detective Chief Inspector Gary Reid said: "There has been an increase in police patrols within the Belfast area but I would ask motorists to take personal responsibility by ensuring that any items or goods are stored safely in boots of vehicles and that doors remain locked at all times whilst in the vehicle."
