Unemployment Continues To Fall
Labour TD, John Lyons, has welcomed the latest Live Register figures, released today by the CSO, which show unemployment has fallen from a peak of 15.1% in February 2012, to 10.6% in December 2014.
He said: "Unemployment has now fallen for 30 months in a row and 140,000 people have left the Live Register to take up employment in the last year alone.
"Today's figures show the Government's dual approach to tackling unemployment, through the Action Plan for Jobs and Pathways to Work strategies, is working. I also welcome the continued fall in youth unemployment to 13.5%.
"I believe the biggest measure this government can do for any person is to ensure they have an opportunity to work. A job not only puts money in people's pockets, but also gives them a sense of dignity and an opportunity to participate fully in society."
