Zimmer To Create 250 New Jobs
Oranmore native, Fine Gael Senator Hildegarde Naughton, has welcomed the announcement that Zimmer, a leading musculoskeletal health care company, will create 250 new jobs as part of a €51m investment at a new Oranmore manufacturing facility.
Speaking after the announcement, Senator Naughton said: "This investment is part of the plan by Government to target the manufacturing sector as part of the Action Plan for Jobs.
"It is very positive news for Oranmore and Galway that a world leading healthcare manufacturing company like Zimmer has chosen Oranmore as a strategic location for further expansion in Ireland.
"Zimmer established a manufacturing facility in Shannon in 2007 and currently employs 330 people. The facility is the primary global provider of the NexGen® femoral knee system and is also now manufacturing the next generation of knee system, for Zimmer – Persona®. As a result of a strategic review, Zimmer is expanding its footprint in Ireland.
"Oranmore is in an ideal location for industry as it has easy road access to the M6 to Dublin and is 45 minutes on the N18 to Shannon Airport. This investment not only strengthens Galway's reputation as a hub for the medical device industry, it is also a vote of confidence in our talented workforce."
