Derry City Stadium Announced For Redevelopment
Derry City Football Club's Brandywell Stadium is to be redeveloped, it has been confirmed.
The project will involve the demolition of the Glentoran stand and the construction of a new stand with changing and office space.
Work on a new pitch and a dog track is to begin later in the year.
The start date for the beginning of the redevelopment is 28 May.
Joint funding from Derry city council and Stormont means that about £10m in total will be spent on the project.
SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan said: "I welcome the news from Derry City Football Club that construction on the redevelopment of the Brandywell stadium is to begin in May.
"I also want to acknowledge the tenacity and commitment of all those who have stood strong during many twists and turns in recent years over the redevelopment of the Brandywell stadium.
"Derry City Football Club needs a first-class stadium with quality, capacity, and facilities that underline their ambitions as a leading League of Ireland club.
"The proposed commitment to social, economic and cultural regeneration for the wider Brandywell area is also greatly encouraging.
"I have no doubts that the new stadium will not just be an asset for both the club and the local community, but a premier facility for the city and wider region as well."
