RNLI Responded To Almost 600 Incidents Last Year

The latest figures from the RNLI show that the charity responded to a total of 565 incidents in 2014.

The charities nine volunteer lifeboats launched 261 times, with a total of 281 people brought to shore in search and rescue operations. During the summer season lifeguards assisted 284 people on 10 beaches.

The figures also revealed that 35% of rescue operations took place in darkness.

RNLI rescue 164 people during 2003
Northern Ireland lifeboats rescued 164 people during 2003, new figures revealed today. The latest rescue statistics showed that RNLI lifeboats in Northern Ireland were launched a total of 198 times during 2003 and that Portrush was the busiest of the province's lifeboat station's with 52 launches.
