Church Calls On Relatives To Collect Cremated Remains

A Newtownabbey church set for closure has issued an appeal for people to claim the cremated remains of their relatives.

St Ninian's Parish Church is to close in the next few months after 51 years.

The church's basement houses a columbarium, where urns of parishioners ashes have been stored.

However, the remains need to be disinterred and reinterred somewhere else.

The church will place newspaper adverts for three months calling on relatives to come forward and claim their relatives ashes. Any unclaimed urns are to be moved to the garden of rest at St John's Church on the Shore Road.
