Belfast Leisure Centre Closes Over Asbestos Discovery

The Robinson Centre in east Belfast has been closed after survey work uncovered a number of previously-unidentified areas of asbestos.

The discovery was made as part of a Building Management Survey being undertaken at the leisure facility.

Castlereagh Borough Council said further survey work is ongoing and as a precautionary measure, it has taken immediate action to close the centre until the full results of the survey are known.

The Health & Safety Executive have been advised and are working with the Council.

Robinson Centre To Close Indefinitely
A leisure centre in east Belfast is to close indefinitely over asbestos concerns. The Robinson Centre, on the Montgomery Road, has now transferred to Belfast's new super council. The issue will now undergo a full judicial review at a later date, however an interim decision means the new Lisburn Castlereagh Council will take over in the meantime.
