Apple Investment Welcomed
Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin TD has welcomed the €850 million investment package announced by Apple.
Deputy Martin said the investment is a boost to the economy and reinforces the multinational giant's commitment to maintaining its long-standing operations in Ireland.
He said: "I welcome today's announcement that Apple is set to roll out a significant investment package in Galway over the coming years. The €850 million investment is a significant boost to the Galway region and the wider Irish economy and will provide much needed jobs. Since Apple first located to Ireland back in 1980 the tech giant has continued to invest in its operations and support employment.
"The data center that Apple is set to construct demonstrates that Ireland can be a global player in this highly specialised sector of the IT industry. It shows that the investment made by successive governments in expanding education and supporting the IT industry is continuing to pay off. The government must now move to build on Apple's announcement and provide the necessary support to grow any potential spin off industry."
