Police Crackdown On Drug Dealers In City Parks
Police have arrested twenty seven people this month as part of a campaign targeting drug dealers in Belfast parks.
The operations have focused on Ormeau Park and Botanic Gardens, which are the policing areas with the highest number of drugs arrests and seizures.
It is understood that a number of drugs are being sold, including herbal cannabis and cannabis resin, and benzodiazepines, but heroin was most widely being sold.
Police said they became aware of the issue following an increase in reports of needle finds in the parks.
Belfast City Council has chosen to install needle bins at public toilets in the parks, in an effort to reduce the number of discarded needles and risks to other park users.
