Derry's Nerve Centre wins top animation award

A short animated film produced by the Nerve Centre in Derry has won the top animation award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

'Pullin the Devil by the Tail' won the McLaren Award For New British Animation, seeing off competition from over 30 animated films.

The McLaren Award is one of the most prestigious awards in the UK film industry as the Edinburgh International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the UK and as such is particularly well attended by leading figures from the national and international film industry.

'Pullin' the Devil by the Tail' was directed by Letterkenny based animator Stephen McCollum. The film has been well received for its deadpan humour, comic timing and the accents of the characters. Stephen is a former student of the Nerve Centre's ESF Creative Industries Training Course.

The film was produced by Pearse Moore at the Nerve Centre and made as part of the Frameworks animation scheme funded by the Irish Film Board, RTE and the Arts Council.

Raw Nerve Productions are developing 'Pullin' the Devil by the Tail' into an animated series and funding for the series has already been secured from the Irish Film Board.
