McGahan Welcomes Loughgall Judicial Review Decision
The widow of Anthony Hughes, a civilian shot dead along with eight IRA men, is allowed to challenge the Secretary of State's intervention
stopping the inquest into the death of her husband and the other men killed that day.
Sinn Féin MLA Bronwyn McGahan welcomed the decision by the High Court.
Ms McGahan said: "After the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg found the rights of those killed at Loughgall had been violated the Attorney General was considering authorising a new inquest until the intervention of the British Secretary of State.
"In September, British Secretary of State Theresa Villiers issued a certificate for Advocate General Jeremy Wright QC, transferring the power to hold an inquiry directly to him.
"As justice is a devolved matter the power to hold this inquest must remain within the remit of the Attorney General John Larkin."
She said the families of those killed at Loughgall have a right to know how their loved ones were killed.
She continued: "Today's decision at the High Court opens up the path to a judicial review of Theresa Villiers' decision based upon the European Convention of Human Rights and that has to be welcomed."

Teen Denies Police Murder Charge
A teenager has appeared in court to deny murdering police officer Constable Stephen Carroll, 48, who was shot dead in Craigavon on Monday 9 March. He was in the dock at Lisburn Magistrates Court where the court was told he "made no reply to the charges", when they were put to him.
